I was listening KQED radio on the way to work this morning. The guest is the author of "Bell Lab: the idea factory". Anyway, I learned something interesting. How Bell Lab succeeded and failed ? He said innovation this term is originated from around 1600. It means the invention of a new philosophy. However, as the high tech industry grows prosperously back to 1950, innovation turns to be a term to describe idea+development+large-scale selling. I think that's a practical definition for innovation. A real innovation should be accessed or enjoyed by common people.
Also, the author kept advocating that we should go for doing something that can impact the world or our lives economically and culturally. I believe it is harder and harder to have a pure research place like Bell Lab anymore. However, the author pointed out something Silicon Valley can learn from Bell Lab.
I always feel lucky to have the chance to absorb SV's spirit and experience the energy coming from each individual dreamer in SV. If you haven't seen how energetic those entrepreneurs are while talking about their innovations, welcome to SV to take a look and feel it. Seeing those people with their own dream is just like taking a cup of coffee to magically wake myself up and feel today is that beautiful in the morning. Hope I can blend into this culture soon. ;-)
Great feeling in the morning while listening this knowledgeable radio program.
